Selene 49

The Selene 49 is a serious passagemaker, and a superlative coastwise and inland cruiser. With multiple layout options including either midships or forward master stateroom, and galley port starboard, or centered, her accommodations can align with her owners’ cruising and liveaboard lifestyle.

The Selene 49 is a "next generation" evolution of the very popular Selene 48 model. It features the new "deep hull" design with its cruiser stern, a full foot increase in engine room headroom to 5’6", and the larger, standard Cummins QSL 9.0 330 h.p. engine. LOA is over a foot longer. On the interior, that translates to an 8" increase in the cockpit and 4" more in the salon.

Explains Howard Chen, the designer and builder of the Selene range, "Another significant difference is a wider body flybridge giving space for entertaining friends and family with style in the open air." A new flybridge layout incorporates an 'L' settee and table to one side, a bar/sink/BBQ unit on the other, and ample room for a substantial dinghy and hydraulic crane."

The Selene 49 is still an excellent long range cruising boat with a D/L ratio at full load of 316, and A/B ratio at full load of 2.54. With the standard Cummins 330 hp at 1800 rpm it has a cruise speed of 8.6kts for a range of 2,000 nm.

The new Selene 49 increases Length On Deck by a full foot, from 47'2" to 48'2" and LOA from 51'10" to 53'2". As a result, the new yacht model increased its useful length by a foot which translates into an additional 8" in the engine room plus 4" in the cockpit. On the main deck, an additional 8" is found in the salon. The real benefit is a full 12" of additional headroom in the engine room - a full 5'6"! This extra height allows for expansion of the fuel tanks - a total of 200 more gallons! Yet, the tanks are a bit narrower yielding even more space in the engine room. All this is done without increasing the draft. The standard engine on the 48DH is now a Cummins QSL 9.0 330 hp, up from the QSB 5.9 330. She's a true passagemaker.

The delivered and commissioned base price of a new Selene 49 is in the range of $759,600. Most owners select options both from the factory (such as air conditioning, inverter, spurs, davit, etc.) and in the aftermarket during commissioning (such as electronics, lines and ground tackle, dink, etc.) that can add another 10% - 15% to the total cost.
